British Columbia Codes 2006
The BC Building Code 2006 provides design and construction requirements for new buildings built in British Columbia. The BC Building Code also applies to additions, substantial alterations, buildings undergoing a change of major occupancy, upgrading of buildings to remove an unacceptable hazard, and demolition of existing buildings.

The British Columbia Codes are the product of a unique partnership between industry practitioners, construction technology experts, and provincial regulators.
- The BC Fire Code contains technical requirements designed to achieve an acceptable level of fire safety and fire protection within a community. The BCFC applies to: the on-going operation and maintenance of fire safety and fire protection features incorporated in buildings and facilities; fire safety at construction and demolition sites; and fire safety and prevention issues within the community.
- The BC Building Code applies to the construction of buildings, including additions, substantial alterations, buildings undergoing a change of major occupancy, upgrading of buildings to remove an unacceptable hazard, and demolition of existing buildings. The BCBC addresses safety, health, fire protection, and accessibility for persons with disabilities. With respect to fire issues, the BC Building Code generally covers the fire safety and fire protection features that are required in a building at the time of its original construction or reconstruction.
- The BC Plumbing Services (Part 7 of the BC Building Code) applies to the design, construction, extension, alteration, renewal or repair of plumbing systems in buildings.
